HARDN FAQ — Ultra Running App Questions Answered

Everything you need to know about HARDN — training plans, race day tools, crew dashboards, Strava sync, Medic Tent AI, and more. If your question isn't here, email support@hardn.app.

Why did you build HARDN?

Every ultra runner knows the feeling — you've put in months of training, you show up to the start line ready, and then race day falls apart. Not because you didn't train hard enough, but because no app was built for what actually happens between mile 1 and the finish line. We built HARDN because we were tired of apps that go silent on race day.

What makes HARDN different from TrainingPeaks or Strava?

TrainingPeaks and Strava are excellent training logs. They stop at the start line. HARDN picks up where they leave off — race day execution, crew coordination, live cutoff tracking, aid station nutrition planning, and an AI that knows your training history when things get hard at mile 70. HARDN is also vert-aware from day one.

Who is HARDN built for?

Ultra runners. Specifically runners training for 50K, 50M, 100K, and 100M events who want more than a training log — they want a race execution platform that is with them from the first training run to the finish line.

How do I get started with HARDN?

Create a free account at hardn.app. Once you're in, the onboarding tour walks you through setting up your profile, connecting Strava, and adding your first race. The whole setup takes under 10 minutes.

Is HARDN free?

HARDN has a free tier that includes core training features. Pro unlocks AI coaching, advanced race execution tools, crew dashboard, Medic Tent AI history and pattern detection, and more.

Do I need to connect Strava?

No — Strava sync is optional. If you connect Strava, your completed workouts automatically sync to HARDN and feed into your training metrics, HARDN Score, and performance charts. If you don't use Strava, you can log workouts manually.

How does HARDN build my training plan?

HARDN's AI generates a personalized plan based on your target race, current fitness level, weekly availability, and elevation profile of your race course. The plan is vert-aware — meaning elevation gain targets are built in as hard constraints. A plan for a flat 50K looks very different from a plan for a mountain 50M with 12,000 feet of gain.

What is the HARDN Score?

The HARDN Score is a composite race readiness metric that combines training load, vert accumulation, long run history, taper status, consistency, and mental readiness into a single number. It gives you an honest read on where your fitness stands relative to your goal race.

What training phases does HARDN use?

HARDN plans are structured around four phases: Base, Build, Peak, and Taper. Each phase has different objectives and intensity targets. Your current phase is always visible on your dashboard.

What is the crew dashboard?

The crew dashboard is a live race day tool for your crew and pacers. It shows your live GPS position, estimated arrival times at each aid station, cutoff times with buffer calculations, conditional crew instructions, and a communication board. Your crew accesses it from any browser — no app download required.

How do my crew access the dashboard?

You share a unique crew link before race day. Anyone with the link can view your live dashboard during the race. You control what instructions and notes they see.

Does the crew dashboard work without cell service?

The dashboard requires an internet connection to update in real time. In areas with poor coverage, the last known position and ETA display until connection is restored.

How does HARDN calculate aid station ETAs?

ETAs are calculated from your historical pace data, adjusted for elevation gain/loss on each segment, current race conditions, and your target finish time. They update in real time as your GPS position updates.

How do I connect Strava?

Go to Profile → Settings and click Connect Strava. You'll be redirected to Strava to authorize the connection. Once connected, your completed activities sync automatically.

What data does HARDN pull from Strava?

HARDN pulls activity type, distance, duration, elevation gain, heart rate (if recorded), and GPS data. We do not pull social data, kudos, or follower information.

Does HARDN push data back to Strava?

No. HARDN only reads from Strava, it does not write back to it.

What is Medic Tent AI?

Medic Tent AI is a sport-specific triage assistant built for ultra runners. Describe a physical symptom — knee tightness, IT band flare, nausea, blister pain — and the AI gives you a plain-language assessment with a GREEN, YELLOW, or RED triage level and specific action recommendations. It is not a replacement for medical advice.

How do I cancel my Pro subscription?

Go to Profile → Settings → Billing and click Cancel Subscription. Your Pro access remains active until the end of your current billing period.

Does HARDN work offline?

Core features require an internet connection. We recommend reviewing your race plan, crew instructions, and aid station details before entering areas with poor coverage.
