Our Cause — Mental Health & Ultra Running | HARDN

Every mile has a reason. For a lot of us, that reason is survival. HARDN exists for the people running from something — and toward something better. A portion of every HARDN membership goes toward mental health resources and support.

Built from the bottom

"Losing the ones I loved — piece by piece — that broke me." — Patrick Enger, Founder.

I gave everything I had. Every moment. Every sacrifice. And slowly, one by one, they drifted away. The people I counted on — the community I trusted — just disappeared. No warning. No goodbye. Just gone. I didn't want to get out of bed. So I ran. Not because it fixed anything. Because it was the only thing that made the next hour possible. One foot in front of the other — until the miles became something to live for.

That's why HARDN exists. And that's why mental health is our cause — not as a marketing line, but as the reason this whole thing started.

The weight we are carrying

  • 1 in 5 — adults in the US experience mental illness each year.
  • 43% — reduction in depression symptoms linked to regular aerobic exercise.
  • Countless — people who started running because they had no other way through.

What we believe

The ultra running community is full of people who found the sport the hard way. Not because it looked fun. Because they needed something bigger than themselves to hold onto. The mountains don't care about your past — they just ask if you're willing to keep moving.

Mental health isn't a weakness. It's the most human thing there is. Depression, grief, trauma — these aren't disqualifiers from this sport. For a lot of us, they're the reason we're here. HARDN is for those people. Built by one of them. Dedicated to all of them.

Pay it forward

A portion of every HARDN membership goes toward mental health resources and support for people who need it. If running gave you your life back, help us give it to someone else.
